This is Part 1 of a three-part series talking about fear and how to overcome it so you can reach higher and rise to your full potential.
Many of us business owners wander through our lives, not even realizing that fear is in the driver’s seat. The reality is fear is impacting your decisions, actions and your outcomes as well.
How to recognize when fear enters the picture and takes control
How does fear make you feel?
The first step in recognizing fear is to check in with yourself and think about how fear makes you feel, physically.
For many people, it can be the feeling of worry, anxiousness, feeling jumpy, irritable and left behind. These are just some of the ways fear can make you feel.
What is fear saying to you?
When fear starts talking, it’s very powerful. It may be saying …
“Don’t do this big thing, because something bad might happen.”
“Don’t put yourself out there. Nobody wants to hear you.”
“Don’t rock the boat.”
This is just some of the language that fear loves to use to keep you small.
What does fear make you do?
Fear often makes you procrastinate or causes perfection paralysis. Fear also sneaks in and tempts you to waste time on low-value tasks, such as checking email or scrolling through your social media feeds.
Fear diverts your focus towards doing things that aren’t moving you towards your goals.
As you move through your day, check with yourself to see if fear is taking the lead in your thoughts, feelings and actions. When you’re able to recognize fear when it enters the picture, you have the power to do something about it … which I’ll cover in Part 2 & 3 of this series.
