Do you ever wonder how prominent people accomplish so much?  I used to attribute it to having access to lots of money and resources.

However this isn’t the real story.

What I discovered might surprise you.

Their success and productivity has more to do with the simple things in life, things that you too can access easily.

Because all these secrets come from your state of mind.

It’s true.  Your mindset around getting your important work accomplished.

Here are the 7 ways successful people stay productive.

  1. Wake Up Early

Getting a head start on your day gives you an advantage. Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Group starts his day at 5:45 am.

“Getting up and at it early gives me time to get on top of things, and chart my day effectively.”

Richard Branson

  1. Say No More Often

Having the confidence to say No to other peoples’ priorities will move you close to achieving your goals.  Legendary investor, Warren Buffet, is an advocate of saying No more often in business.

“The difference between successful people and very successful people is that very successful people say, “no,” to almost everything.”

Warren Buffet

  1. Don’t sweat the small stuff

Resist using your time and energy to make small decisions.  Use your mental resources for decisions that make a real difference. Barack Obama follows this rule.

“You’ll see I wear only grey or blue suits. I’m trying to pare down decisions.”

Barack Obama

  1. Let go of your control freak tendencies

As an entrepreneur, it may be second-nature for you to feel the need to do everything in your business. But Oprah has shown successful people spend the majority of their time doing what they do best.

“I try to surround myself with people who really know what they’re doing, and give them the freedom to do it,”

Oprah Winfrey

  1. Stop trying to do it all

It’s time for a reality check, you are not the Energizer bunny. You do not have limitless time and energy.  As Lorraine Twohill , Senior VP of Global Marketing for Google said:

“You get older and wiser and realize you can’t do it all. You can’t even begin to do it all. You have to be realistic.”

Lorraine Twohill

  1. Read

Reading ignites your imagination and is a gateway to new ideas and creativity.  Bill Gates, businessman and philanthropist, is an avid reader. He attributes part of his journey to success to his love of books.

“I really had a lot of dreams when I was a kid. And I think a great deal of that grew out of the fact that I had a lot to read.”

  1. Focus on tasks that drive business growth

The most productive people work on their most important task first thing in the morning. During this time they banish interruptions and distractions.

“Invest the first part of your day working on your number one priority that will help build your business.”
